After 2 hours of watching the Processione dei Misteri, we left Trapani and headed to Marsala. Along the way, we stopped at Saline Ettore e Infersa, a salt pan from Phoenician times. It's open from 9 am until 6:30 pm April, May and October and until 8 pm from June to September. Shorter hours in the off season and closed Jan 7 through end of February. Admission is €6 per person to tour the windmill.

You can also take a boat tour. It didn't sound too exciting to cruise around the perimeter of salt pans so we didn't do it.

The salt pans with windmills in the distance. The windmills help to grind the salt. Another tour add-on is a guided walk through the salt pans.

The windmill you get to tour is a short walk from the ticket booth.

Inside, you'll watch a video of how salt is made then tour the windmill. Other than being able to take a picture of the salt pans with the windmills, I didn't find the windmill tour too exciting.
