La Bettolaccia

Back in Trapani, we had lunch at La Bettolaccia, located at via Generale Fardella Enrico, 25. It was a block from the Chiesa della Anime Santa del Purgatorio. Looking at the outside, I didn't expect to have my best meal in Sicily here.

The coperto was €2.50 per person. The bread was warm and good.

Caponata-- €9. This was a great caponata--almonds, extra virgin olive oil, parsley, tomatoes, olives, capers, carrots, celery, aubergine, vinegar. Each component held its shape despite being very tender. This was just half the portion--the kitchen divided the dishes we ordered so we each had our own plate.

Buciate Sardine e Mel-- €14. The pasta was al dente and had good sardine flavor, without the sardine overpowering the dish. It also had garlic, almonds, extra virgin olive oil, onion, raisins, pine nuts, wild fennel, toasted breadcrumbs.

Cuscusu Zuppa Pesce (couscous with fish soup)-- €22. This was THE best dish I had in Sicily. It was very flavorful and full of seafood (langoustines, mussels, calamari, fish). This was the full portion and could easily have fed 2 people. I can't wait to go back to Trapani to have this again.
