Zion National Park, Part 2

Leaving Grand Canyon North Rim, we drove through Kanab and reached the east entrance for Zion National Park.

Entrance is $30 but if you paid for Kolob Canyon less than 7 days prior, no need to pay another entrance fee. Likewise, entrance was free with the America the Beautiful pass. You do have to purchase a $15 pass for the Zion tunnel if you have a vehicle wider than 7' 10" or taller than 11' 4". This is good for 2 trips through the tunnel.

Zion was very crowded and the eastbound traffic was bumper to bumper. It wasn't quite as bad going west but it certainly was a lot more people than at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Look to the left after you enter to see Checkerboard Mesa. There is a pull off where you can stop on the right.

Entrance to the Zion Tunnel

The Zion Tunnel is 1.1 miles long

There is a window in the tunnel that gives you a view of East Temple.

We wanted to stop and do a hike but there was no parking space to be found. We could have gone into Springdale, found a paid parking spot and taken the free shuttle back into the park but it was too much work and we were discouraged by the crowds.
