Vila Vicosa is a "marble town." There are quarries nearby along with fields of leftover blocks of marble.
Vila Vicosa was home to the Braganca dynasty, who ruled Portugal until it became a republic. The Pousada was located next to the Paco Ducal de Vila Vicosa, home to the Braganca kings.
Igreja dos Agostinhos is located across from the Paco Ducal.

At the southeastern edge of town is the Castelo de Vila Vicosa.
Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Conceicao is a 15th century church within the castle walls.
In the center of town is Praca da Republica which is lined with orange trees. The oranges are very sweet and juicy.
