After the castles of the Middle Rhine, we arrived in Rudesheim around 5pm. There was no included tour but it's a small town so it's easy to wander around on your own. The ship provided a map.
We sailed past Rudesheim
and docked a short walk from the center of town.
Eagle Tower was built in the 15th century as part of the town's fortification.

Cable Car Station to Niederwald Monument.
Drosselgasse is the alley where sailors hauled their equipment from the river up to town. It's a narrow alley filled with souvenir shops, restaurants and wine cellars nowadays.
We came upon an old grape press.
Rheingau Wine Museum
Bromser Castle dates from the 11th-12th century. It was in the hands of the Archbishop of Mainz until the 18th century. It is now a wine museum.
Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet has instruments from the 18th-20th century.
On the way back to the ship, we came upon a small fire in town. The fire engines used hydrants that are underground.
