The trail passes through a wooded area initially.
Spring Ranch is part of Van Damme State Park. With spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, it's a great place to spot whales. The whales are closer to shore on their migration north February to April.
There is a rocky intertidal shelf, where you can see seals sunning themselves.
We walked 2.7 miles, which took just under an hour.
