Sights in Burgos

Burgos is a provincial capital in Castile y Leon, with a population of 175,000. It sits on the Rio Arlanzon and has a pedestrian historic center. We had just one afternoon in Burgos so we didn't see all the sights but here's what we saw walking in the historic center.

The AC Burgos Marriott is near the Rio Arlanzon. We walked in the park next to it--it's a popular place to stroll and you'll see many locals on their evening stroll.

Arco de Santa Maria--one of 12 original gates to Burgos and only 1 of 6 that survived. It was built in the 13th century.

Walk through the gate to find Burgos' impressive Catedral.

From there, walk to the Plaza Mayor and Town Hall.

Walk back out through the Arco Santa Maria and turn left along the Paseo de Espolon.

You'll soon reach the Teatro Principal.

Beyond that is the Plaza del Mio Cid

Statue of El Cid, the town's favorite son, dominates the plaza.

From Plaza El Cid, it's a short walk to the Iglesia de San Lesmes Abad.

Statue of rotund man and woman, possible pilgrims on the Camino De Santiago, since Burgos is on the route.
