Shanghai Garden Dumpling House

Another of my favorite places in Flushing is the Shanghai Garden Dumpling House, located at 135-33 40th Road.

When you spend $10 or more, you get a free item of your choosing: 1 order steamed pork buns or 1 bun with Peking duck per person.

We chose the Peking duck. The buns were good as was the duck but the skin could have been a little more crisp.

The star of the meal is the Soup Dumpling with Pork--6 dumplings for $7.95. These are so good. Full of flavor and the burst of soup is so delicious. 2nd only to Din Tai Fung.

Pick them up carefully (I grab the top with chopsticks) as they are delicate. Place in your soup spoon and top with ginger and soy/vinegar mixture. Bite the top of the dumpling to let the steam escape then pop the whole thing in your mouth. Yum!!!

Another of my favorite is the Handmade Pork & Chive Dumpling--8 for $7.95. These are also very good. The skin is just the right thickness. Pour a mixture of vinegar and soy sauce on this as well.

This time I tried the Salted Soybean Milk--$2.95. Big mistake! It wasn't savory enough and needed more flavor. The soybean milk was also too thick. Definitely a pass next time.
