Long Canyon Slot

TravelingFoodie2

The Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument Visitor Center was across the street from the Escalante Cabins & RV Park. We stopped there to get some information on hikes in the park.

Quite a few of the trails were accessed via gravel and unimproved roads, something we didn't want to attempt in an RV. We did find a short hike, easily accessible on paved roads--the Long Canyon Slot.

The drive through Escalante was beautiful.

The Long Canyon was difficult to find and there was no formal parking area. 28 miles from the Visitor Center, we took the Burr Trail Road turnoff. 11.2 miles from the turnoff, look to the left to find the slot canyon. There is a small widening in the road to allow parking for a few cars. No signs.

It's a short 1/4 mile walk from the road to the slot canyon. It's a short slot canyon but since it was so easy to get to, it was worth it.

The view from inside the canyon, looking back at the entrance.

The trees were changing colors in early October.
