Leon Cathedral

The Leon Cathedral is 13th century Gothic. It has some of the finest stained glass in Europe.


Admission to the cathedral is €6. You used to get an audioguide but now, you download the guide using a QR code. If you don't have cell service, you're out of luck because there is no WiFi in the cathedral.

Between each tower and the main facade, there is a gap, which allows more light in the cathedral. There are 3 porticos (doorways with pointed arches).

In the central portico, there is a carving of the Last Judgment.

The choir is beautiful.

Each chair has a curved "sounding board" which helps the voices to carry

The Rose Window above the main door is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. with 12 angels playing instruments around her. It is the most colorful and receives the most light of the day.

The window to the left of the altar symbolizes darkness and obscurity. It gets less light during the day.

The window to the right of the altar symbolizes brightness.
