One of my favorite places in Flushing is Joe's Steam Rice Rolls. It's located at 136 Roosevelt Avenue and it opens at 9am. There was already a line at 9:05am.

Joe's makes the thinnest rice rolls. One guy makes all the rolls and he has a system: 1) pour a ladle of batter on the metal sheets, 2) roll the sheet until the entire sheet is covered, 3) pass the sheet into the steamer.

Once steamed, which takes just a minute or so, fill it and then roll the rice sheet up.

I usually get the shrimp--$4.50 for small and $6.50 for large. It's the same size rice roll but the fillings are more with the large. Next time, I'm going to try the beef rice roll. The filling looked good.

Choose 3 vegetables--I like bean sprouts, lettuce and cilantro.

The finished product. It comes with a sweet soy sauce and it's delicious! So light and the veggies and shrimp are so good together.

Can't wait for my next layover in New York.
