Islas Cies

The Cies Islands are a series of 3 islands off the coast of Vigo. It's a 45-minute ferry ride.

There are several companies that make the trip. You can purchase tickets in the building with the Tourist Information. We chose Mars de Ons because they had the most sailings. Tickets are €18 round trip. You do need an authorization to visit the islands but the ferry company can help you get the free authorization online. If you're there during the busy summer season, it's probably best to sign up for the authorization online and order your ferry tickets online.

There is a beautiful beach on the island. There's also a nudist beach.

There are also numerous trails for hiking.

We chose to hike up to the Faro de Cies, a 3.5 km hike each way.

Heed the warning signs about high tide.

The walkway between the islands may be impassable during high tide.

There is camping on the island. You can bring your own tent for €9.70 per adult, €6.70 per child over 3 years old.

Or reserve one of the tents for €55 for 2 people, €85 for 4 people. Reserve at www.campingislascies.com.

The Cies Faro is on top of a hill.

On the trail, you can also see the Faro da Porta near the water's edge.

On the way back down, we stopped to see the Observ. de Aves. and the window in the rocks.

The Observ. de Aves is a shelter where you can look for seabirds.

On the way back to the pier it was high tide and we could see waves crashing over the walkway. It was still passable but you got a little wet.

We took the 2nd to last boat back to Vigo. There was a long line to board the boat. Be sure to get to the pier at least 15 minutes before sailing time.
