It was 30 minutes from the Henderson Costco to Lake Mead National Recreation Area. We had an America the Beautiful annual pass which cost $80 so admission was free. Otherwise, it's $25 for 7 days.
We boondocked at Government Wash. From Henderson, take Hwy 564 to Lake Mead. After the entrance, turn left on Northshore Road (Hwy 167) then right on Government Wash Road. The 2.3 miles is mainly paved until the last section, which is gravel. The drive wasn't too bad, even in an RV.
Camping at Government Wash is free. We got there at 6 pm on a Saturday in October and was still able to find a nice site with a nice view of Lake Mead.
The sunset was beautiful.
Our site was flat and there was no one nearby. You could hear cars driving down the road late into the night though. The site had a fire ring but nothing else. There were garbage bins and a building with toilets at the turnoff to Government Wash, 2 miles away.
