Goblin Valley State Park

From our boondocking site, it was 1 hour to Goblin Valley State Park.

The drive on Hwy 24 was beautiful.

Entry to Goblin Valley State Park was $20. Since it's not a National Park, the America the Beautiful pass was not valid.

We drove all the way to the end of the road. There was a huge parking lot with access to several trails. There was even a food truck.

This is the view of Goblin Valley from the parking lot.

Trail Details:

Ease: flat except difficult scramble on rocks at end

Distance: 4 miles

Elevation gain: 219 feet

Time: 2 hours

Loop: no

Description: flat trail until Goblin’s Lair—scramble on rocks to reach. Can also visit Goblette Lair—another scramble on rocks to reach.

From the parking lot, take the Carmel Canyon Trail for 1/2 mile. At the sign, head towards Goblin's Lair.

The trail is flat and you pass beautiful vistas.

We passed by this rock formation. I'm not sure if there's an official name but I called it "Mother & Child."

The easy trail ends near Goblin's Lair.

Scramble up the rocks to see Goblin's Lair.

Goblin's Lair looks like a cave but it's actually a slot canyon. The entrance has big boulders. Apparently, you can get a permit and rappel down the cavern and exit it on the other side.

After seeing Goblin's Lair, we continued to Goblinette's Lair. After exiting from Goblin's Lair, we turned right and took the trail over the rocks and through a slot canyon.

We passed deep holes,

scrambled over some more rocks.

to reach Goblinette's Lair.

View from inside Goblinette's Lair, looking out.

From Goblinette's Lair, we joined the flat trail back to the Carmel Canyon Trail.
