A popular thing to do in Basel in the summertime is to float down the Rhine. Purchase a Wickelfische bag (a dry bag). We found this one at a department store called Manor and it cost CHF 35 ($37).

Load your clothes in it and fold it to create a floatation device.

There are brochures available on guidelines for "enjoying the Rhine" with a map of the safe floating zones. Or, just follow the locals. We entered near the Tingley Museum and floated past 2 bridges and got out at the 3rd bridge--Johanniterbrucke. The current carries you gently down the river.
