We woke up as we were passing the Theodor Huess-Brucke bridge just outside Dusseldorf around 6:30 am.

Festwiese roller coaster on the riverbank just beyond the bridge.

We passed Dusseldorf on the port side so we didn't get to see it. Beyond Dusseldorf was the Rhine Tower. All these pictures were taken from our cabin.

We had breakfast then at 9 am, we arrived in Zons and traveled by bus to Cologne. This was a 25-minute drive vs a 3-hour cruise.

The included excursion was a 2-hour walking tour then we spent the rest of the day having lunch and wandering around Cologne.

Onboard, there was an Enrichment lecture on Life in Germany at 4:30 pm, a Port Talk at 6 pm followed by dinner at 7 pm.

ree

Cologne Cheese Soup with air dried ham. This was a good soup but it was odd to have vegetables in it.

ree

The Lombardy Salad with mixed greens, pear, Gorgonzola, crushed walnuts and cranberry vinaigrette was quite good.

ree

Schwabische Maultaschen--German spinach & cheese ravioli with chanterelle mushrooms. This was disappointing. It wasn't very flavorful.

ree

Navarin d'Agneau, Jardiniere de Legumes--traditional lamb stew with spring vegetables. This had good flavor. The lamb was very tender but it was a very small portion.

ree

Donauwelle--German cherry chocolate cake with wheat crumble was just okay. Too dry and not much flavor.

ree

The Moelleux au Chocolat--Valrhona Tainori Cocao. The molten chocolate cake was also just okay. It was too dry.

ree

After dinner, a violinist and a classical guitarist from Cologne gave a 40-minute performance. Shortly after, the ship set sail at 10 pm. The captain was worried about the water level.
