Along the waterfront in Vila Nova de Gaia, just beyond Sandeman, step into Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau to admire the interior and sample a pastel de bacalhau.
Make your purchase with the cashier in the center of the room.
Wander towards the far wall to watch it being made and pick up your pastel. It's pricey (€5) but worth a try--it has mashed potatoes, bacalhau and cheese.
