Bom Jesus do Monte

Bom Jesus do Monte is a pilgrimage site 5 km east of Braga. We parked at the top of the hill and walked down to the chapel.

Lush fountains on the grounds.

The chapel sits at the top of 580 steps. If you park at the bottom of the hill, you can climb up (some do it on their knees) or take the funicular.

The ark beneath the altar contains the remains of San Clemente, a Roman soldier martyred in the third century AD.

The organ has horizontal pipes used for fanfares.

The view from the bottom is impressive.
