Arches National Park

Arches National Park is a big draw near Moab. Entrance to the park is $30 per vehicle for 7 days, free with the America the Beautiful pass. It was very crowded and the park entrance closes late morning until traffic clears. We were fortunate at 3 pm to be able to enter.

Arches received a certification as an international dark sky park in July 2019. The park replaced its outdoor lighting with fully shielded bulbs and energy-efficient light fixtures. This allows the same amount of light to be delivered to the ground while protecting overhead darkness. If you can spend the night, it's worth the view.

Arches National Park was featured in the 1989 movie "Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade."

As you drive north in the park, you can stop at various viewpoints. The first stop is Park Avenue Viewpoint. You can hike 1 mile down to connect to the road near The Organ, but you'll need someone to pick you up.

The next turnoff is to see the La Sal Mountains in the distance.

You'll also see this rock formation at the La Sal turnoff. I was not able to find the name of this formation.

At the Courthouse Towers Viewpoint parking area, look to the left to see the Three Gossips and Sheep Rock to the right of it.

Look to the right to see The Organ.

Drive further and at the turnoff to the Windows, you'll find Balanced Rock.
