Vittoriosa

The third city is Vittoriosa, just up the peninsula from Cospicua.

The Church of St. Lawrence was built between 1681 and 1697.

Entrance to the Grand Harbour Marina

The Malta Maritime Museum is on the waterfront just beyond the gate.

Fort St. Angelo is located at the tip of the peninsula. It's open to the public--€10 admission.

We walked to the end of the peninsula and tried to walk around the fort but there was no pathway on the eastern side of the peninsula.

Look across to the Kalkara Marina.

Then head interior to Il Collachio, a small maze of alleys.

Soon you'll reach Misrah ir-Rebha, a large square. From here, we followed the walking tour in Lonely Planet Malta.

In the square, you'll find the Victory Monument, erected in 1705 in memory of the Great Siege. The Great Siege occurred in 1565 when the Ottoman Empire attempted to conquer the island of Malta.

The Inquisitor's Palace was built in 1530 and served as law courts until the 1570s when it became the tribunal and prison of the Inquisition.

You can see shelling marks on the building.
