Lake Sonoma Recreation Area

Besides hiking near the ocean, there's also hiking near lakes in Sonoma County. Lake Sonoma is off US101, about 25 miles north of Santa Rosa. There are numerous hiking trails. Parking at the trailhead is free for the time being.

We chose the Half-a-Canoe trail.

Trail Details:

Moderate

Distance: 4.8 miles

Elevation gain: 968 feet

Time: 2h 35m

Loop: yes

Description: Park at the No Name parking lot. Hike to Half a Canoe trail. Half a Canoe is a loop trail that takes you down to the lake. It can get muddy after a rain and there is minimal shade.

At the edge of the lake, you'll find the Lone Pine Camp. This can be accessed by boat and there are several sites. Picnic tables are available.

At the water's edge of Lake Sonoma.

The trail is mainly exposed--be sure to wear a hat.
