Grata

Grata is an Italian restaurant that opened in Windsor during the pandemic. It's located at 186 Windsor River Road.

They offered a 3-course dinner for $30. There were 2 options for each course.

First course was either House Salad--butter lettuce, tomato conserva, almonds with either balsamic or creamy gorgonzola dressing.

The other option was Little Gem Caesar--little gem lettuce, foccacia croutons, parmesan. I liked the foccacia croutons--crunchy and full of flavor.

The entree options were Chicken Parmesan--pan fried chicken breast, creamy asiago and marinara sauce over spaghetti. The chicken breast was tender and delicious. Where the dish ran into trouble was the white sauce on the chicken, which added nothing. The spaghetti was a tad overcooked. So disappointing for an Italian restaurant.

The other option was Ricotta Gnudi--dumplings in brown butter, butternut squash, hazelnut, greens. This was a small portion and the flavors didn't work.

Dessert options were Honey Panna Cotta--with candied kumquats and pistachio crumble. I didn't like this either. The panna cotta jiggled and the kumquats added a little bitterness. I'm still dreaming of the panna cotta we had in Corsica where it was so creamy.

The star of the meal was the Ricotta Zeppoli--warm cinnamon donut holes with nutella chocolate sauce. The zeppolis were delicious. I just wish the chocolate sauce was not so thick so you could really enjoy it with the zeppolis.
