Day 1--Oceania Regatta Embarkation

The Oceania Regatta was docked at the Singapore Cruise Center at 1 Maritime Square. I used the RideShare app Zig Comfort DelGro. From our hotel in Robertson Quay to the cruise center, it was SGD8.90 ($6.65) for the ride. This was after a SGD5 discount for being a first time rider.

Checking in was a nightmare. We arrived at 12:30, when we had indicated we would arrive. We dropped off our luggage then went upstairs to check in. Checking in started at 11am and the line was LONG. Not sure why it took so long since everyone was supposed to have already checked in online, entered credit card information and received a boarding pass. 1 hour and 45 minutes later, we finally made it to the security and immigration line.

The day's Currents:

Once on board, we headed to the Terrace Cafe for lunch. The Grand Dining Room was not serving lunch. The Terrace Cafe has a pizza area, pasta station, carving station, soup, salad, cold buffet and hot buffet selections, a grill, assorted desserts and an ice cream bar. You can pretty much find what's served in the Grand Dining Room in the Terrace Cafe. The dishes sometimes are overcooked in the Terrace Cafe but the pasta station is always good.

You can get as much or as little as you want. I tried a little of the clam chowder and it was not to my liking so I was glad I didn't commit to a big bowl. The pasta is cooked a la minute and is always good. The Caesar salad was prepared fresh and you can specify how much dressing you want. I went to the Carving Station and asked for a thin slice of beef on top of my Caesar. I tried a little of the seafood medley and asked for some steamed vegetables. Overall, a great Welcome Aboard lunch. Glad to see Oceania's food is still one of its highlights.

During lunch, an announcement was made that we would not be docking in Semarang and Surabaya because of Indonesia's No-Covid policy. Does that mean we have Covid passengers onboard?

At 3pm, our cabin was ready. Our luggage had arrived so we unpacked. At 5pm, we went to the Cruise Critic Meet & Greet. Cruise Critic is a great online resource for all things about cruising.

The ship was docked at the Singapore Cruise Terminal which has a nice view of Sentosa Island. Sentosa is a resort island with a beach, marine park, casino and Universal Studios. You can access the island via road, cable car, pedestrian boardwalk and monorail

At 6:30pm, the Terrace Cafe opened and we got appetizers: sushi, beef tartare and calamari.

Here's the menu for dinner in the Grand Dining Room:

You can make 2 reservations each at the Specialty Restaurants--Polo Grill & Toscana. I made reservations at the Polo Grill for Embarkation Day. There were no tables for 2 available so we shared a table with Geoff, who was from Melbourne.

See next post for our dinner at Polo Grill.

The entertainment for the night was A Night of Comedy at 9:30pm. We did not attend but heard it was not that funny. Oceania is not known for its entertainment.
