Arrival at MLA (Malta Airport)

Updated: Mar 15, 2022

Malta is a small country with a population of 500,000. The capital is Valletta, where international flights land. MLA is a small airport and you generally walk off the plane onto the tarmac.

After clearing customs, you pass through a health screening. It took a little longer because we didn't have an EU Digital Covid Certificate. The first agent wouldn't accept our CDC cards but she asked another agent, who waved us through.

Walk outside and follow the signs for the bus. Look for the bus stop for Bus X4, which will take you to the center of town.

A little further down, you'll see a ticket machine.

You have the option of purchasing single tickets for €1.50 or purchasing a 12-ride card for €15. It can be used by multiple people. The single tickets can be used for multiple rides within 2 hours. The 12-ride card deducts a ride for each bus you board. If you think you'll need to transfer buses to get to your final destination, you're better off purchasing a single ticket.

Public transportation is very easy to use in Malta. You can get all over the island and even get to Comino and Gozo by bus. If you decide to drive, keep in mind that the Maltese drive on the left.
