A Walk Through Valletta

The Triton Fountain marks the entrance to Valletta. It was sculpted in 1959, restored and reopened in 2018, in time to mark Valletta as the European Capital of Culture. There was no water in the fountain during our visit.

Walk towards the City Gate and look to the left to see the Hastings Garden.

The City Gate was designed by Renzo Piano. The gate is basically an opening flanked by 25m high metal blades, representing knights' sabres.

The Parliament Building was also designed by Renzo Piano. It was completed in 2014.

Republic Street is the Main Street and leads from the City Gate to Fort St. Elmo.

The Royal Opera House was destroyed by German air raids in 1942. You can still attend concerts and performances in the open-air space.
