We left Joshua Tree National Park and stopped in Bakersfield. Whenever I pass through, I like to get Basque food. One of my favorites is Wool Growers, located at 620 E. 19th Street.

Salad--$3/person
Oxtail Stew--$15/quart
Pickled Tongue--$20/lb
I love the oxtail--so tender and the pickled tongue is the best--just the right amount of garlic and vinegar. The vegetable soup is light but flavorful.
