The Petroglyph National Monument is located in Albuquerque. It's the largest petroglyph site in North America with petroglyphs from 400-700 years ago. There are 4 hiking trails, 3 offering views of petroglyphs. We chose the Piedras Marcadas Canyon, which had over 400 petroglyphs. There's a free parking lot at the start of the trailhead.

It takes 1 hour to hike 1.5 miles roundtrip. It's a flat sandy trail and dogs on leash are allowed. No bicycles and it is not stroller or wheelchair accessible. There are no restrooms, no water and no shade.

Some petroglyphs are close to the trail and others are further in the distance but still visible without a binocular. The lighter color petroglyphs are more recent.
