From Roswell, take US 380 west to Hondo. Turn right on Billy the Kid Trail. After 10 miles, you'll reach Lincoln, an unincorporated village where Billy the Kid had his last jailbreak. It sits in the Bonito Valley, at an elevation of nearly 6000.
Lincoln is one of the best preserved old west towns and many historic buildings lie along a one-mile stretch of US 380.
The Torreon is a rock fort tower where settlers hid during Indian raids.
La Placita Gift Shop
Tunstall Store Museum is in a building built in 1878. It still displays unopened dry goods and hardware from the period.

The Wortley Hotel & DIning Room has been a historical fixture in Lincoln for over 140 years. It served as a Bed & Breakfast but closed in 2020 due to COVID and is now up for sale.
The Livery Office
The Lincoln Courthouse and Jail where Billy the Kid was held. He escaped in April 1881 and was shot dead 2 1/2 months later. This is known as the last escape of Billy the Kid and re-enactments occur every August.
