Leaving Route 66

After Amarillo, we left Route 66 to turn back home. We took US 60 south.


We passed wide empty fields.


Stinky cattle feed lots near Hereford, the beef capital of the world. Did you know that the hereford is a British breed of beef cattle that originated in Herefordshire?


It's nearly 2 hours from Amarillo to the New Mexico border.


Portales claims it is "home of 17,000 friendly people and 3 or 4 grouches" in New Mexico. It's home to the Eastern New Mexico University, the 3rd largest university in the state.
