Chicago is known for deep dish pizza. It's not for everyone. It's a deep pie and very filling.
Pizzeria Uno opened in 1943 and claims to be the originator of the deep dish pizza. It's debatable because Lou Malnati claims to have made the first deep dish pizza. Pizzeria Uno is now a franchise that can be found in 21 states and Washington, DC.
Nowadays, Pequod gets the highest rating for its pizza. It's located at 2207 N Clybourn Ave. From our hotel, it was not easy to use public transportation so we used Lyft.
You can always tell how popular a place is if you see people with suitcases on their way to the airport. You can make reservations online at Tock. Otherwise, stand in line.
Old-time pizza parlor with vinyl booths.
Pequod's Salad--$13.95. Large enough to feed 3. The salad is romaine, spring mix, cheese, pepperoncini, green pepper, carrots, mushrooms, tomato & onion.
They have a lunch special Mon-Fri (holidays excluded) from 11am-3pm--$7.95 for a 7" cheese pizza. We added toppings for additional cost--homemade sausage, spinach on one and
homemade sausage, mushrooms on the other. I liked the spinach better. We saw many pizzas with pepperoni. Clearly, that was the popular choice. Each pizza could be shared by 2.
Pequod's crust is coated with cheese, making it crispy. The crust was good but I'm still not a big fan of deep dish pizza.
