Coos Bay to Reedsport

TravelingFoodie2

Driving north from Coos Bay, we reached Winchester Bay, where you can find oyster beds.

Nearby is the Umpqua River Lighthouse. The original lighthouse was destroyed by flood in 1864. The current lighthouse does not sit on the water. Rather it is across the street from the river.

You can pick up oysters from the Umpqua Triangle Oyster Company.

The oysters are large. These were smalls--1 dozen for $11. It was July and some of the oysters were milky. Oysters are best enjoyed in months with an "r." During the summer, some oysters become milky.
