A Fourth of July Celebration

Sadly, the Fourth of July celebration in Brookings was cancelled. We decided to drive to Crescent City for their Fourth of July celebration.

Their celebration started with free Hot Air Balloon Rides at 7am. It was sponsored by Re/Max

The Del Norte Historical Society Homemade Pie and Ice Cream Social was at 10 am.

The parade started at noon. We sat near the Judges Stand at 3rd and H.

The parade started when a cannon was shot at 577 H Street.

There weren't many marching bands but there were plenty of floats. This one featured the COVID vaccination volunteers. Candy was thrown from the floats and the kids loved it.

The Jed Smith Mountain Men were another participant. Jedediah Smith was an American explorer of the North American West.

Afterwards, everyone gathered at Beachfront Park. There was free music at the Free Stage.

2-4pm Steve Berg played his Finger Style Acoustic Guitar and sang songs from the 60s and 70s.

4-6pm The Lost Coast Countrymen played everything from "Jones to Stones"

6-8pm The Mighty Steelheads played Americana to Grateful Dead with roots in country and blues.

The music program was pretty good.

An unusual activity was Cow Chip Bingo. Still not quite sure what it was.

What's a Fourth of July celebration without fair food.

Curly fries--$9. This was a huge portion but $9 was still too steep. The fries needed to be cooked just a little longer.

Corn dog--$6.

Fireworks were scheduled at 9:30pm but the fog rolled in so we left..
